The Sun and the Moon

Long, long ago, the Sun and the Moon were good friends. They lived on Earth and played together every day. But the Sun was very bright and hot. All the other animals and plants would hide when the Sun came near. The Moon was sad because her friend, the Sun, could not play with anyone else.

One day, the Moon had an idea! "Sun, you are too bright for Earth. Why don't you go up to the sky? You can shine there and give light to everyone, but they won't be too hot!" The Sun thought this was a wonderful idea. So, the Sun went up into the sky. Then, the Moon said, "I will join you at night, so the Earth is never completely dark." And that is why the Sun shines in the day and the Moon shines at night, so they can both help the Earth.
