What is a Syllable?

A syllable is a part of a word that has one vowel sound. We can clap out syllables to help us hear them. For example, the word 'cat' has one syllable. The word 'tiger' has two syllables: 'ti-ger'. Knowing about syllables helps us read and spell bigger words!
