Read the information below about nonfiction text features. Then answer the questions.

What Are Text Features?

Nonfiction books tell us real facts about things. They have special parts called text features. These features help us understand the book better!

Titles and Headings

Every book has a title. It tells you what the whole book is about. Inside the book, you might see headings. Headings tell you what a small part of the book is about. They are usually written in bold letters.

Pictures and Captions

Nonfiction books often have real pictures or drawings. These pictures help us see what the book is talking about. Below the picture, there is often a caption. A caption tells you what is happening in the picture.

Glossaries and Indexes

Sometimes, a nonfiction book has a glossary at the back. A glossary is like a mini dictionary for hard words in the book. It tells you what they mean. An index is also at the back. It tells you what pages to find certain topics on.
