What is a Prefix?

A prefix is a small part of a word that is added to the beginning of a base word. It changes the meaning of the base word. For example, in the word 'unhappy', 'un-' is the prefix and 'happy' is the base word. 'Un-' means 'not', so 'unhappy' means 'not happy'.
