Read the story below. Then, answer the questions by making connections to yourself, other stories, or the world around you.

Lily's Big Adventure

Open book

Lily loved to read. Her favorite books were about brave knights and faraway castles. One sunny morning, Lily decided to build her own castle in the backyard. She gathered big sticks, old blankets, and even her dog, Buster, to help. Buster mostly just wagged his tail and tried to chew on the sticks. Lily worked all morning, imagining she was a princess in her grand castle. When it was finally built, she sat inside with Buster, reading one of her knight books. It felt just like a real adventure!

1. Text-to-Self: Does Lily remind you of yourself? What have you done that is like Lily's adventure?

2. Text-to-Text: What other story have you read about building something or going on an adventure? How is it similar to Lily's story?

3. Text-to-World: Does Lily's dream of being a princess or building a castle make you think of anything in the real world (like real castles or royalty)? Explain.
