The Little Red Hen
Once upon a time, there was a Little Red Hen who lived on a farm. She found a grain of wheat. "Who will help me plant this wheat?" she asked. The Pig said, "Not I." The Cat said, "Not I." The Dog said, "Not I." So, the Little Red Hen planted it herself.
Soon, the wheat grew tall and ripe. "Who will help me cut this wheat?" she asked. The Pig said, "Not I." The Cat said, "Not I." The Dog said, "Not I." So, the Little Red Hen cut it herself.
Then, she asked, "Who will help me take this wheat to the mill to be ground into flour?" The Pig, the Cat, and the Dog all said, "Not I." So, the Little Red Hen took it to the mill herself.
Finally, she had flour. "Who will help me bake this flour into bread?" she asked. The Pig, the Cat, and the Dog all said, "Not I." So, the Little Red Hen baked the bread herself. When the bread was ready, she asked, "Who will help me eat this bread?" The Pig said, "I will!" The Cat said, "I will!" The Dog said, "I will!" But the Little Red Hen said, "No, you won't! I planted it, I cut it, I took it to the mill, and I baked it. Now I will eat it myself!" And she did.
