It was Christmas Eve. I lay in my bed and listened. A faint sound. Was it reindeer bells? No, it was the sound of a train. I looked out my window and there, right outside my house, was a magnificent train, the Polar Express. The conductor stood on the platform, checking his watch. 'All aboard!' he yelled. I ran outside, still in my pajamas, and climbed onto the train. Inside, children drank hot cocoa and sang carols. The train sped through forests, over mountains, and across a desert of ice. Finally, we arrived at the North Pole, a city of factories where toys were made and wrapped. Santa Claus was there, ready to give the first gift of Christmas.
