The Busy Life of a Honeybee

Open book illustration

Honeybees are amazing insects! They live together in large groups called colonies, often in a hive. Each bee has a special job. Worker bees, who are all female, fly from flower to flower collecting nectar and pollen. Nectar is a sweet liquid that bees turn into honey. Pollen is like a powder that helps plants grow, and bees eat it too. They carry these back to the hive in tiny baskets on their legs. Inside the hive, other worker bees build honeycomb, clean the hive, and take care of baby bees. The queen bee's most important job is to lay eggs. Without her, the colony would not grow. All honeybees work together to keep their colony healthy and make delicious honey!
