Read each section's instructions carefully and complete the activities. This worksheet will help you practice identifying and dividing words with the VC/CV syllable pattern.

What is the VC/CV Pattern?

The VC/CV pattern helps us divide words into syllables. It stands for Vowel-Consonant/Consonant-Vowel. When you see two consonants between two vowels, you usually divide the word between the two consonants. This helps you sound out longer words!

Example: rab-bit (V-C/C-V)

Identify the VC/CV Pattern

Look at each word. Underline the vowels (V) and circle the consonants (C) to show the VC/CV pattern. Then draw a line to show where you would divide the word.

1. sup per

2. pen cil

3. sis ter

4. bas ket

5. gob lin
