What is the VCV Pattern?
The Vowel-Consonant-Vowel (VCV) pattern helps us understand how to pronounce words. When a word has a single consonant between two vowels, we often split the word before the consonant if the first vowel is long, or after the consonant if the first vowel is short. For example, in 'tiger', we split it 'ti-ger' (long 'i'). In 'cabin', we split it 'cab-in' (short 'a').
1. Which word follows the VCV pattern where the first vowel is long?
robin
camel
pony
river
2. In the word 'lemon', where would you typically divide the syllables?
le-mon
lem-on
l-emon

Complete each sentence with a word that follows the VCV pattern. The first letter is given.
