The Little Red Hen

Once upon a time, there was a Little Red Hen who lived on a farm with a lazy dog, a sleepy cat, and a noisy duck. One day, the Little Red Hen found some grains of wheat. "Who will help me plant this wheat?" she asked. "Not I!" barked the dog. "Not I!" purred the cat. "Not I!" quacked the duck. So, the Little Red Hen planted the wheat all by herself. When the wheat grew tall, she asked, "Who will help me cut the wheat?" Again, the dog, cat, and duck all said, "Not I!" So, the Little Red Hen cut the wheat by herself. Then, she asked, "Who will help me take the wheat to the mill to be ground into flour?" The others refused. So, she did it herself. Finally, she asked, "Who will help me bake the bread?" The lazy animals once again said, "Not I!" So, the Little Red Hen baked the delicious bread by herself. When the bread was ready, she asked, "Who will help me eat this bread?" "I will!" barked the dog. "I will!" purred the cat. "I will!" quacked the duck. But the Little Red Hen said, "No! I did all the work, so I will eat it myself!" And she did.
