The Little Red Hen

Once upon a time, there was a Little Red Hen who lived on a farm. She had some friends: a lazy dog, a sleepy cat, and a noisy duck. One day, the Little Red Hen found a grain of wheat. "Who will help me plant this wheat?" she asked. "Not I!" barked the dog. "Not I!" purred the cat. "Not I!" quacked the duck. So, the Little Red Hen planted the wheat all by herself.

Soon, the wheat grew tall and golden. "Who will help me cut this wheat?" she asked. "Not I!" barked the dog. "Not I!" purred the cat. "Not I!" quacked the duck. So, the Little Red Hen cut the wheat all by herself.

Next, it was time to take the wheat to the mill to be ground into flour. "Who will help me take the wheat to the mill?" she asked. "Not I!" barked the dog. "Not I!" purred the cat. "Not I!" quacked the duck. So, the Little Red Hen took the wheat to the mill all by herself. She came back with a bag of flour.

Finally, the Little Red Hen wanted to bake bread. "Who will help me bake this bread?" she asked. "Not I!" barked the dog. "Not I!" purred the cat. "Not I!" quacked the duck. So, the Little Red Hen baked the bread all by herself. When the delicious smell of fresh bread filled the air, her friends suddenly appeared. "Who will help me eat this bread?" asked the Little Red Hen. "I will!" barked the dog. "I will!" purred the cat. "I will!" quacked the duck. But the Little Red Hen said, "No! I will eat it all by myself!" And she did.
