The Little Red Hen
Once upon a time, a Little Red Hen found a grain of wheat. She asked her friends, the Pig, the Cat, and the Dog, if they would help her plant it. 'Not I,' said the Pig. 'Not I,' said the Cat. 'Not I,' said the Dog. So, the Little Red Hen planted it herself.
Soon, the wheat grew tall and ripe. The Little Red Hen asked her friends to help her cut the wheat. 'Not I,' said the Pig. 'Not I,' said the Cat. 'Not I,' said the Dog. So, the Little Red Hen cut it herself. Then she asked for help taking the wheat to the mill. Again, her friends refused. So, she took it herself.
After the wheat was ground into flour, the Little Red Hen asked her friends to help her bake bread. 'Not I,' said the Pig. 'Not I,' said the Cat. 'Not I,' said the Dog. So, the Little Red Hen baked the bread herself. When the delicious smell of fresh bread filled the air, the Little Red Hen asked, 'Who will help me eat this bread?' 'I will!' said the Pig. 'I will!' said the Cat. 'I will!' said the Dog. But the Little Red Hen said, 'No, you won't! I planted it, I cut it, I took it to the mill, and I baked it. So, I will eat it myself!' And she did.
