The Little Red Hen

Once upon a time, there was a Little Red Hen who lived on a farm with a lazy Dog, a sleepy Cat, and a noisy Duck. One day, the Little Red Hen found a grain of wheat. "Who will help me plant this wheat?" she asked. "Not I," barked the Dog. "Not I," purred the Cat. "Not I," quacked the Duck. So, the Little Red Hen planted it herself.

Soon, the wheat grew tall and ripe. "Who will help me cut the wheat?" asked the Little Red Hen. "Not I," barked the Dog. "Not I," purred the Cat. "Not I," quacked the Duck. So, the Little Red Hen cut it herself.

Next, she asked, "Who will help me take the wheat to the mill to be ground into flour?" Again, the Dog, Cat, and Duck all said, "Not I." So, the Little Red Hen took it to the mill herself. When she returned with the flour, she asked, "Who will help me bake the bread?" And again, they all refused. So, the Little Red Hen baked the bread herself.

Finally, the delicious smell of fresh bread filled the air. "Who will help me eat this bread?" she asked. "I will!" barked the Dog. "I will!" purred the Cat. "I will!" quacked the Duck. But the Little Red Hen said, "No, you won't! I planted the wheat, cut the wheat, took it to the mill, and baked the bread all by myself. So, I will eat it all by myself!" And she did.
