The Little Red Hen

Once upon a time, there was a Little Red Hen who lived on a farm with a lazy dog, a sleepy cat, and a noisy duck. One day, the Little Red Hen found a grain of wheat. "Who will help me plant this wheat?" she asked. "Not I," barked the dog. "Not I," purred the cat. "Not I," quacked the duck. So, the Little Red Hen planted it herself.

Soon the wheat grew tall and ripe. "Who will help me cut this wheat?" she asked. "Not I," barked the dog. "Not I," purred the cat. "Not I," quacked the duck. So, the Little Red Hen cut it herself.

Then it was time to take the wheat to the mill. "Who will help me take this wheat to the mill?" she asked. "Not I," barked the dog. "Not I," purred the cat. "Not I," quacked the duck. So, the Little Red Hen took it to the mill herself.

When the wheat was ground into flour, she asked, "Who will help me bake the bread?" "Not I," barked the dog. "Not I," purred the cat. "Not I," quacked the duck. So, the Little Red Hen baked the bread herself.

When the bread was fresh and warm, she asked, "Who will help me eat this delicious bread?" "I will!" barked the dog. "I will!" purred the cat. "I will!" quacked the duck. "No!" said the Little Red Hen. "I will eat it myself!" And she did.
