Read about Garrett Morgan and answer the questions below.

Garrett Morgan was an African American inventor who lived a long time ago. He was born in 1877 in Kentucky. Even though he didn't get to go to school for very long, he loved to learn and solve problems. He invented many things that made life safer and easier for people.

One of Garrett Morgan's most famous inventions was the traffic light. Before his invention, traffic at busy intersections was very dangerous. His traffic light helped cars and people know when to stop and when to go. This made streets much safer! He also invented a safety hood, which was like a gas mask, to help firefighters and people in dangerous places breathe safely. He even used his own safety hood to rescue workers trapped in a tunnel.
