Bessie Coleman was an amazing woman who loved to fly! She was born in Texas in 1892. When she grew up, she wanted to be a pilot, but it was very hard for African American and Native American women to learn to fly in the United States. Bessie was very brave and didn't give up on her dream. She saved her money and moved to France, where she could learn to fly an airplane. In 1921, Bessie Coleman became the first African American and Native American woman to earn a pilot's license! She became famous for her 'barnstorming' shows, where she would do tricks in her airplane. Bessie Coleman showed everyone that with hard work and courage, you can achieve your dreams.
