What is a Haiku?

A Haiku is a short poem that comes from Japan. It usually describes nature and has a special syllable pattern. Syllables are the beats in a word. For example, 'wa-ter' has two syllables.

The syllable pattern for a Haiku is:

First line: 5 syllables

Second line: 7 syllables

Third line: 5 syllables

Here is an example:

Green grass in the park (5 syllables)

Sunlight warms my happy face (7 syllables)
