The New Neighbor
Lily watched from her window as a moving truck pulled up next door. A girl with bright red shoes hopped out of the truck, carrying a box twice her size. She stumbled a little but giggled as she regained her balance. When the box finally made it inside, the girl reappeared, this time pulling a small wagon filled with toys. She waved at Lily, who was still peeking through the curtains. Lily quickly hid. Later that afternoon, Lily heard a knock on her door. It was the new girl, holding a plate of freshly baked cookies. “Hi! I’m Maya,” she said with a wide smile. “My mom and I just moved in. Would you like to play?” Lily, usually shy, found herself smiling back. “I’m Lily,” she replied, taking a cookie. “Sure, I’d love to!”
