The Amazing Journey of Monarch Butterflies
Every autumn, millions of monarch butterflies begin an incredible journey. They fly thousands of miles from cooler northern places, like Canada and the United States, all the way to warmer climates in Mexico and California. This long trip is called migration. Monarchs cannot survive the cold winter, so they must fly south to find food and warmth. They often fly in large groups, sometimes covering the sky in a beautiful orange and black cloud. Along the way, they stop to rest and drink nectar from flowers. It takes several generations of butterflies to complete the entire migration, with each generation continuing the journey until they reach their destination. It's a truly amazing natural wonder!
