The Big Game
Maya loved soccer. Her team, the Green Dragons, was playing in the championship game today. She had practiced all week, running and kicking the ball until her legs ached. This morning, she woke up with butterflies in her stomach. She was excited to play, but also a little nervous. What if she missed a goal? What if they lost?
The game started, and Maya played her best. She passed the ball, dribbled past opponents, and even took a shot on goal that just barely missed. Towards the end of the game, the score was tied. Suddenly, an opposing player tripped Maya, and she fell hard. Her knee hurt, and she felt a wave of frustration wash over her. She wanted to cry, but she held it in. Her coach helped her up, and she limped to the sideline.
From the sideline, Maya watched as her teammate, Leo, scored the winning goal! The crowd roared, and the Green Dragons jumped up and down with joy. Even though her knee still hurt, Maya felt a huge smile spread across her face. She was so proud of her team.
