The Amazing World of Bees
Bees are fascinating insects that play a very important role in our world. There are over 20,000 different kinds of bees! The most well-known type is the honeybee, which lives in large groups called colonies. A typical honeybee colony can have tens of thousands of bees, all working together. Each colony has one queen bee, whose main job is to lay eggs. There are also many worker bees, who are all female. Worker bees do many jobs: they collect nectar and pollen, make honey, clean the hive, and protect the colony. Male bees are called drones, and their main job is to mate with the queen. Bees communicate by dancing. They do a 'waggle dance' to tell other bees where to find good sources of nectar. Without bees, many of the fruits and vegetables we eat would not grow.
