What are Compound Words?

Compound words are created when two or more words are joined together to form a new word with a new meaning. For example, 'sun' + 'flower' = 'sunflower'.

There are three main types of compound words:

1. Closed Compound Words: Two words joined together without a space (e.g., 'notebook', 'football').

2. Hyphenated Compound Words: Two or more words joined by a hyphen (e.g., 'sister-in-law', 'well-known').

3. Open Compound Words: Two words used together with a space between them, but they function as a single unit with a new meaning (e.g., 'ice cream', 'full moon').
