Read each instruction carefully and complete the activities. This worksheet will help you practice identifying and applying the Vowel-Consonant-Vowel (VCV) pattern in words.

The Vowel-Consonant-Vowel (VCV) pattern is a common syllable pattern in English words. When a word has a single consonant between two vowels, the word is usually divided before the consonant, and the first vowel often makes a long sound. For example, in the word 'tiger', the pattern is V-C-V (i-g-e). The word is divided as 'ti-ger', and the 'i' makes a long 'i' sound.

Sometimes, the word is divided after the consonant, and the first vowel makes a short sound. For example, in the word 'camel', the pattern is V-C-V (a-m-e). The word is divided as 'cam-el', and the 'a' makes a short 'a' sound. We often try dividing before the consonant first, and if that doesn't make a real word, we try dividing after the consonant.
