The Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Butterflies are fascinating insects that undergo a complete metamorphosis. First, a female butterfly lays tiny eggs, usually on a leaf or stem. These eggs are often laid in clusters and are very small, sometimes no bigger than a pinhead. After about five to ten days, a tiny larva, also known as a caterpillar, hatches from each egg. The caterpillar's main job is to eat and grow. It eats leaves constantly, shedding its skin several times as it gets bigger. This process of shedding skin is called molting.

Next, once the caterpillar has grown to its full size, it forms a chrysalis. This is a hard, protective casing that hangs from a twig or leaf. Inside the chrysalis, amazing changes begin to take place. The caterpillar's body breaks down and reforms into an entirely new creature. This stage can last from a few weeks to several months, depending on the species and environmental conditions. Finally, the chrysalis opens, and a beautiful adult butterfly emerges. The butterfly will then dry its wings and fly off to feed on nectar and, eventually, lay its own eggs, starting the cycle anew.

Number the events of the butterfly's life cycle in the correct order from 1 to 4.
