The 'Drop the e' Rule:
When a word ends in a silent 'e' and you add a suffix that starts with a vowel (like -ing, -able, -ous), you usually drop the 'e' before adding the suffix. If the suffix starts with a consonant (like -ful, -less, -ment), you usually keep the 'e'.
