The Whispering Woods
Lily loved to explore. Her favorite place was the Whispering Woods, a forest behind her house named for the soft sounds the wind made through its ancient trees. One sunny afternoon, Lily packed a small basket with a sandwich and an apple, and ventured into the woods. She followed a winding path she’d never taken before. Deeper and deeper she went, the whispering growing louder, almost as if the trees were telling secrets. Suddenly, the path ended at a clearing she’d never seen. In the center stood a magnificent, ancient oak tree, its branches reaching like arms to the sky. At its base, nestled among mossy roots, was a tiny, brightly painted wooden box. Lily carefully opened the box to find a single, smooth, blue feather inside. A feeling of wonder filled her. She gently closed the box, placed it back, and promised herself she would return to the magic of the Whispering Woods.
