The present continuous tense (also called the present progressive tense) is used to describe actions that are happening right now, at this very moment, or actions that are ongoing. It is formed with a form of the verb 'to be' (am, is, are) and the present participle of the main verb (verb + -ing).

They are playing soccer. (ongoing action)
