The Life of a Honeybee
Honeybees are fascinating insects that live in large groups called colonies. Each colony has one queen bee, several thousand worker bees, and a few hundred drone bees. The queen bee is the largest bee in the hive, and her main job is to lay eggs. Worker bees are female bees that do all the work in the hive, including collecting nectar and pollen, making honey, and building the honeycomb. Drone bees are male bees, and their only job is to mate with the queen. Honeybees communicate through a special 'waggle dance' to tell other bees where to find food sources. They are essential pollinators, helping many plants to grow fruits and vegetables.
1. What are the three types of bees found in a honeybee colony, and what is the main role of each?
2. How do honeybees communicate about food sources, and why are they important to plants?
