A metaphor is a figure of speech that directly compares two unlike things without using 'like' or 'as'. It states that one thing IS another thing to create a deeper meaning or image in the reader's mind. For example, 'The classroom was a zoo' means the classroom was chaotic and noisy, not literally filled with animals.
