A predicate nominative (also called a predicate noun) is a noun or pronoun that follows a linking verb and renames or identifies the subject. Linking verbs do not show action; they connect the subject to a word or phrase that describes or identifies the subject. Common linking verbs include appear, be (am, is, are, was, were, been), become, feel, grow, look, remain, seem, smell, sound, stay, taste, and turn.

Example: Maria is a talented artist. ('artist' is the predicate nominative, renaming 'Maria')
