The Lost Kite
Leo had spent weeks building his kite, a magnificent creation with a long, colorful tail. He had painted it with swirls of blue and green, hoping it would look like a dragon soaring through the sky. Finally, a perfectly breezy Saturday arrived. Leo rushed to the park, his heart thumping with excitement. He launched the kite, and it danced gracefully upwards, higher and higher, until it was just a speck against the clouds. Leo watched, mesmerized, as it swayed and dipped. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind ripped through the park. The string, which Leo had tied with such care, snapped with a sharp 'pop!' Leo gasped as his beautiful dragon kite became a runaway, drifting further and further away. Tears welled up in his eyes as he chased after it, but the kite was too fast, disappearing over the tall oak trees at the edge of the park. Dejected, Leo slowly walked home, staring at the empty spool of string in his hand. Later that evening, as Leo was helping his mom water the garden, he spotted a flash of blue and green tangled in the branches of their tallest apple tree. It was his kite! A little torn, but mostly intact. With his dad's help and a long ladder, they carefully retrieved it. Leo carefully patched the small rips, feeling a renewed sense of joy. He knew he'd need a stronger string next time, but for now, his dragon was home.
