A gerund is a verb ending in -ing that functions as a noun. It can be the subject of a sentence, a direct object, an object of a preposition, or a predicate nominative. Read each section carefully and answer the questions.

A gerund is a word that looks like a verb (because it ends in -ing) but acts like a noun. It can do anything a noun can do in a sentence. For example, in the sentence 'Swimming is my favorite sport,' 'swimming' is a gerund acting as the subject.
