A thesis statement is the main idea or argument of your essay. It tells your reader what your essay will be about and what points you will prove. A good thesis statement is usually one sentence long and appears at the end of your introduction paragraph.

A strong thesis statement has two main parts:

2. Controlling Idea/Argument: What you plan to say about your topic.
