A predicate nominative is a noun or pronoun that follows a linking verb and renames or identifies the subject. Remember that linking verbs connect the subject to a word or phrase that describes or renames the subject. Common linking verbs include forms of 'to be' (is, am, are, was, were, been, being), become, seem, appear, feel, grow, look, remain, smell, sound, stay, taste, and turn.
