Read each section carefully and answer the questions. For poetry excerpts, identify the rhyme scheme using letters (A, B, C, etc.). For writing prompts, create your own verses.

Rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhymes at the end of each line of a poem or song. It is usually referred to by using letters to indicate which lines rhyme. For example, in an AABB rhyme scheme, the first two lines rhyme with each other, and the third and fourth lines rhyme with each other.

Read the following stanza and identify its rhyme scheme. Write the letter for each rhyming line.

The wind blew hard, a chilly blast, ( ) The trees did sway, their branches fast. ( ) Across the sky, the clouds did flee, ( ) And left behind a world for me. ( )
