Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow. Pay close attention to the order in which events occur.

The old lighthouse stood sentinel on the craggy cliff, its beam a comforting sweep across the turbulent sea. Elara, a young girl with eyes the color of the ocean itself, had lived her whole life within its sturdy walls. One blustery autumn evening, a fierce storm raged. The wind howled like a hungry wolf, and rain lashed against the lantern room. Suddenly, with a deafening crack, the massive lens that focused the light shattered, plunging the coastline into darkness. Panic seized Elara. Her father, the lighthouse keeper, was ill with a fever. Knowing that ships relied on their light, Elara remembered her grandmother's tales of a hidden backup lamp, stored in the deepest part of the cellar. She grabbed a small, flickering oil lamp and descended the winding, damp stairs. Cobwebs brushed her face, and the air grew heavy with the smell of salt and old wood. Finally, she found it—a tarnished, brass lantern, heavy with its ancient mechanism. With trembling hands, she carried it back up, her heart pounding with a mixture of fear and determination. She positioned the old lamp in the shattered frame, ignited its wick, and though dimmer than the powerful lens, its steady glow once again pierced the swirling darkness, guiding a distant ship safely to shore.
