The Past Continuous Tense (also called Past Progressive Tense) is used to describe an action that was ongoing in the past. It is formed with 'was/were' + the present participle (-ing form) of the verb. For example: 'I was reading a book.' or 'They were playing soccer.'

Complete the following sentences using the past continuous tense of the verb in parentheses. Make sure to use 'was' or 'were' correctly.

4. The birds   (sing) beautifully when I woke up.
