What is a Predicate?
The predicate of a sentence is the part that contains the verb and states something about the subject. It tells what the subject does or what is said about the subject. A simple predicate is the verb or verb phrase alone. A compound predicate consists of two or more verbs or verb phrases that share the same subject.
Predicate Nominatives and Predicate Adjectives
A predicate nominative is a noun or pronoun that follows a linking verb and renames or identifies the subject. A predicate adjective is an adjective that follows a linking verb and describes the subject.
